Rotaract Committees
The Ottawa Rotaract Club is comprised of two committees: international service and community service.
Through committee participation, Rotaract members have the opportunity to become actively involved in the running of the club.
International Service Committee
The International Service Committee organizes activities and events to engage the Rotaract Club’s members and supporters in international projects. Under the direction of the International Service Director, this committee will be undertaking two projects in the 2008-2009 year: Polio Plus: contributing to Rotary International’s $100 Million Challenge, and an International Development Case Competition: an academic team-based competition simulating a real development challenge.
Past international projects include Project Tembo (2008), Empowering Women Though Education program in Panvel Industrial Town, India (2007), Wheelchair Foundation (2006), WaterCan (2006), Rotaboats (2005), the Rwanda Orphanage Project (2004), and Project Love (2004-2005).
To participate in this year’s projects or to suggest future international service projects, contact the International Service Director: Jozsef Spiteri at isd@rotaractottawa.ca.
The goal and purpose of the community service committee is to promote and plan activities implicating members in community projects. Headed by the Community Service Director, this committee is required to plan one major activity each year involving most of the membership. As well, this committee continuously plans a variety of community projects intended to increase the member’s awareness of social issues existing in our community. In the past Rotaractors have worked in:
The Ottawa Food Bank
St. Joe’s Women’s Shelter and Soup Kitchen
The Mission
Shepherds of Good Hope
As well, Rotaract has participated for the past three years in Project Serve Canada, a partnership experiential learning project in association with the University of Ottawa and the University of Guelph. This four day hands on community service project allows Rotaractors to be engaged in the Ottawa community, working in community organizations, participating in round table discussions and team building activities and taking part in presentations from local experts. This project is a great experience for participating Rotaractors!
The Community Service committee also works in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Ottawa to participate in a number of Rotary led projects including:
Adventures in Citizenship
Annual All that Jazz Golf Tournament and Fundraising Dinner
To participate in any of these projects or to suggest a possible community service project for the Rotaract Club of Ottawa, join the committee or contact its chair – Melissa Masson – at csd@rotaractottawa.ca.
