Rotaract General Meeting Minutes

Natalya opened the meeting and welcomed everyone to our last Carleton meeting of the
year, then lead an Icebreaker.
Elections: (Natalya)
Elections will be March 29th. All posts will be elected at that meeting. Details to come at
the next meeting, but if you know that you are interested in a post you can submit your
name now.
Hockey:
On Sat. March 21, the Rotary Club of Kanata is organizing a trip to the Sens/Rangers
game, with proceeds going to Shelter Boxes. Information will be attached to the email.
Concert: (Kyle)
Rotary and the University of Ottawa have partnered to offer a classical music concert at
First Unitarian Congregation church on March 28 at 7:30pm. We have 4 tickets from of
Eva, our sponsor Rotarian. If you are interested, please contact the account.
International Update: (Mangla)
The polio-plus project is now complete, and we raised over $1000 dollars. Rotary is
matching our contribution.
The next project is Rotary Books for the World. Mangla will be bringing donation boxes
and letters to the next meeting and we will be holding a book drive march 16-27. You can
return the boxes at the final meeting of the year, March 29.
Community Service Update: (Gorana)
We have people volunteering at St. Joes every second Friday, and sent 3 people last
Friday.
Our food drive on Thursday had 3 members attend, who collected 2 boxes of books and 3
boxes of food for the Ottawa food bank.
We are volunteering at the Heart Institute on March 8. If you are interested in joining that
team, please email the account.
We will be working with A Day for Africa (Billy Strachen) next year, as he is not starting
the project until then.
Guest Speaker: Michele T (Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar)
Michele is an Italian student doing his Masters at Carleton with a Rotary Ambassadorial
scholarship. He told us of working in Africa with NGOs to combat HIV/AIDS, working
with the UN and World Bank in Rome and Brezil, as well as applying to get the
Scholarship and how to apply. He is considering staying in Canada to get citizenship here
and working for CIDA or a similar agency.
